Wedding planner admits hurling curses at cops

A 26-year-old self-employed wedding planner found yelling at his girlfriend in the middle of a Sandys road was arrested after he turned his anger toward the Police.

Yesterday in Magistrate's Court, James Hillier pleaded guilty to using offensive language towards officers and damaging a car, on Sunday, August 6.

Crown Counsel Robert Welling told court that at 7.15 p.m. Police were called about a domestic disturbance on Cambridge Road, Sandys and when they arrived they found Hillier yelling at his girlfriend.

When the officers approached the Pembroke man he said: "F*** off there's nothing here." He was cautioned, but continued to use abusive language towards the officers who then arrested him and transported him to the Somerset Police Station.

While Hillier was in custody the Police received a call at 8 p.m. from Crystal Bean who reported her car had been vandalised.

Ms. Bean said she had parked her car near Cambridge Wharf at 12 noon on Sunday to go out on a boat and returned at 8 p.m. to find her vehicle damaged.

The rear windshield wiper on her gray Ignis Suzuki car was broken off, there was a dent on the rear right panel and blood was all over the back of the car.

Police questioned Hillier about the incident who, when he was arrested, had blood on his left arm and the wedding planner said: "Oh that's a gray car. Yeah I did that."

Yesterday, in Magistrate's Court, Hillier's lawyer Richard Horseman explained that the argument with his girlfriend developed because the defendant was coming from the Non-Mariner's party where he had drunk too much.

"It was a heated argument between his girlfriend and him that has been resolved between them and he will make full reparations to Ms. Bean," said Mr. Horseman.

Acting Magistrate Tyrone Chin said he would delay sentencing for a month to ensure that Hillier had repaid reparations for the damaged car.

When Hillier returns in September, Mr. Chin said the matter of offensive language would also be dealt with.
