Arrests as fight spoils football match
Boulevard 2 Southampton Rangers 1Ugly scenes marred Boulevard's victory over Southampton Rangers at BAA Field after a fight broke out between spectators.The Premier Division match yesterday was halted in the seventh minute when the brawl which started in the BAA car park spilled over onto the pitch.Three of the men involved in the fight were arrested by police and led from the venue.Said a Police spokesman: "Around 9.10pm on Saturday, Police responded to a reported disturbance at BAA on Woodlands Road in Pembroke. On arrival officers found there was no disturbance taking place. However, as a result of further inquiries at the scene, four men in their early 20s were detained."Of the four men initially detained, two were subsequently released without charge. The remaining individuals, a 20-year-old St George’s man and a 22-year-old Warwick man, were arrested for using offensive words and outstanding warrants respectively."The match re-started around 15 minutes later.Ajani Gibbons and Temiko Wilson scored for Blazers, while Dennis Russell found the net for Rangers.Lou Matthews, Boulevard's president, said the fracas had involved several “well-known troublemakers”.
