ABOUT THE SHIP

PHOTO BY Tamell Simons Tenacious arrives in Hamilton,Tenacious, a training ship especially adapted for disabled people arrived in Hamilton Today Wednesday.

Tenacious makes two transatlantic journeys each year — one from Southampton to Bermuda and Antigua followed by the return leg to the UK.

Those on board pay 65 per cent of an average transatlantic sail crossing as their passage is also funded by the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

A journey between Antigua and Bermuda takes 12 days with the boat then taking 17 days to cross the Atlantic — usually with a port of call in the Azores or Ireland.

During the summer the tall ship then sails around the UK, travelling to the Canaries and Scotland.

Organisers welcome volunteers and crew members from the age of 16 upwards, and regularly take on those in their seventies and eighties.

Places are open to people of all ages, experience and abilities.
