<Bz26>Busy day for Senators
Senators have a busy session today as the Upper House wraps up business for the winter break.
Up for debate are some financial bills including the Bermuda Monetary Authority Amendment Act which will increase fees for banks, trusts and insurers to help fund 30 new regulators, the Insurance Amendment Act which brings in a code of conduct and the Companies Amendment Act which modernises company law.
The Motor Car Amendment Act, which allows minibus operators to get more of a slice of the public transport market, is also on the agenda along with the Fisheries Amendment Act which brings in fines of up to $25,000 or jail of up to two years for people caught fishing in protected areas.
The Customs Tariff Amendment Act will harmonise customs laws in line with other countries.
