Man fined for drugs
A Devonshire man admitted to possession of cannabis when he appeared in Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Saun Burrows, 25, of Hermitage Close, pleaded guilty to having 1.44 grams of cannabis in his possession.
The court heard from Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess that on October 28 Police noticed a man in his car on Front Street. When they approached Burrows his speech was slurred, his eyes glazed and there was a familiar smell of cannabis.
When police searched Burrows they noticed two white paper twists on him which was identified as cannabis.
"I didn't know it was there," Burrows told the Police who arrested him and took him to Hamilton Police Station.
Burrows, a taxi driver, confessed he was wrong but pleaded with the court as he plans to go to school in the near future.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Burrows $1,000 with three months prison default.
