Premier gives staff award he received at China summit
Premier Dr. Ewart Brown presented the Department of Tourism staff with the tourism award he received in China last month for their hard work.
On Thursday, Dr. Brown assembled the staff for a surprise presentation during what they thought was a regular meeting.
Acting Director of Tourism Jasmin Smith said: "That the Premier chose to share this world-renowned award with us is a kind gesture and it was most appreciated by the department. We are pleased that he recognises our contribution."
The staff had gathered at the time to discuss tourism events held in October — including the Bermuda Music Festival, the Gold Cup, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and the Escape Triathlon — and to brainstorm for next year.
Dr. Brown said: "Leaders in tourism around the world have great respect for what we've been able to accomplish in Bermuda. That recognition is a direct result of the creativity and commitment of the people working for the Department here in Bermuda and in New York."
The award will be displayed in the reception area of the tourism office at Global House.
The committee of the Second World Tourism Summit recognised Bermuda for its outstanding tourism product on October 30 and presented Dr. Brown with its Tourism Leadership Award.
