Reserve Police host counterparts from around the world

Bermuda has played host to the International Reserve Police Officers Association Conference this month.

Officers from the US, South Wales, Bahamas and Bermuda have been patrolling the Island and attending the conference since October 18.

And the head of the Bermuda Reserve Police, Commandant Huw Lewis said he was proud to have hosted the 12th conference. It was the first time it was held in Bermuda.

The Reserves were patrolling Hamilton last weekend, they did the 4 p.m. till 4 a.m. shift on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

While on duty, the overseas guest officers noted that there was a very positive response from the public to the Bermuda Reserve Police officers as they went about their duties.

They have also visited Government House, L. F. Wade International Airport, Harbour Radio, Westgate Correctional Facility and went aboard the Bermuda Police Service vessel Guardian to watch a display by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit.

During the conference they also discussed domestic violence, Internet crime involving the exploitation of minors, recruitment in various jurisdictions, financial crimes and Crime Stoppers.

They also attended a gala awards ceremony at the host hotel, Grotto Bay Beach.

Today the overseas officers will be leaving Bermuda.
