The Bermuda Electric Light Company’s employee union delivered its official strike notice yesterday to company brass.
At a meeting on Wednesday night the Electricity Supply Trade Union voted unanimously to approve a 21-day threat to strike. The action represents 240 employees, most of which have direct contact with customers.
The union and BELCO bosses have been at odds over wages and salaries since late last year.
Arrangements were made for arbitration to begin this past Monday but the two sides couldn’t settle on an arbitration panel, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations.
