Phenomenal Women Bermuda is the first international chapter of a US faith-based, non-profit organisation that sets out to positively influence women by providing educational seminars.

Bermuda chapter founding president Margaret Giloth said: "After living out of Bermuda for nearly 20 years, I immediately recognised a great need for the women of this country to be encouraged and empowered."

A series of launch activities kick-started on Wednesday with a workshop at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.

A proclamation on the steps of Hamilton City Hall follows today to officially launch the Bermuda chapter.

The weekend activities end with a blessing service at Christ Church, Middle Road, Devonshire on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The charity says it will raise funds by co-ordinating events that appeal to women — such as girls' get-togethers, fashion shows, tea parties, book clubs and golf tournaments.

All proceeds will go to existing local charities supporting women and their children.

Mrs. Giloth added: "We celebrate women and their accomplishments.

"The group identifies itself as ordinary women doing extraordinary things.

"I believe that by encouraging Bermudian women, we will see a renewal of the family unit and a healed community."
