stolen from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital while in the care of an Island Wide Security guard.

The theft occurred last Friday on the ground floor of the hospital during what was described as an "extremely busy'' time.

Although the incident took place a week ago, Police failed to release any information about the incident until last night.

The money bag was picked up by a security guard from a cashier opposite the emergency department and, when his attention was diverted for just a few moments, the bag was taken.

It is believed that Island Wide Security has taken responsibility for the theft, and is therefore liable to replace the money.

Island Wide Security owner Bill Black told The Royal Gazette : "It is just one of those things.'' He added: "It was an extremely busy Friday afternoon and the security guards had loads on their plate...the staff were up to their eyes in problems.'' Mr. Black noted, however, that "the Police are doing an excellent job'' and expected that they would have a suspect in custody soon.
