A stern warning form top magistrate

Wor. Will Francis for driving while disqualified six days after being convicted of the same offence.

Jamal Juan Mello, 16, of North Church Lane, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while disqualified on March 25.

Police saw Mello travelling "at a fast speed'' near Crow Lane around 4 p.m.

that day, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said.

"A routine check revealed that he was disqualified by the court,'' he added.

Mello was last before the court on March 19 for speeding at 50 kph. He was fined $75 and disqualified from all motor vehicles for three months.

"For a high school student you're on a very bad and dangerous track,'' Mr.

Francis told Mello. "You were taken off the road on the 19th and you're driving at a high speed on the 25th. This is really contempt of court.'' Mello said he thought he could ride until he paid his fine.

"So if you took three months to pay your fine, you thought you could ride?'' Mr. Francis said. "I wonder whether common sense would have told you different.'' He ordered Mello to pay a $150 fine and to stay off "all motor vehicles'' until June 18, 1993.
