Senior Magistrate Archie Warner said he would take Raymond Henderson's remorse into consideration after a relative spoke on behalf of the defendant.

Henderson, 66, worked as an office clerk for Arnold's Supermarket in Somerset, when he stole the $800 cash in September then forged accounting documents.

Over the following two weeks, Henderson, of Seawall Drive, Sandys paid the money back in two $400 installments.

Frank Arnold, owner and operator of the food chain, fired Henderson after discovering the theft on the accounting sheets.

A relative of Henderson's who only identified himself as Sergeant Lewis said the 66-year-old was a good man.

"He is an honourable citizen in every aspect,'' said Sgt. Lewis.

Mr. Warner responded: "Apparently not. He stole from his employer. This on the face of it, is a serious offence -- but I've got to consider your personal circumstances.'' Henderson was fined $250 for theft and another $250 for forging accounting papers.
