After a name the baby contest with a difference, the five month old dolphin has been named Somers, after Admiral Sir George Somers, whose arrival in Bermuda after the wreck of the Sea Venture marks the beginning of Bermuda's settlement.

The name was suggested by Edward Churm of Smith's Parish -- one of four people who sent in the name.

"There were close to 100 entries and many creative names to choose from,'' said Michelle Hammond, Dolphin Quest director of operations.

"We were pleased to see this level of involvement from the local community and greatly appreciate all the wonderful suggestions.'' Mr. Churm, who was selected at random, won a Dolphin Encounter for two.

The three runners-up, Maggie Moore of Hamilton, Yvonne Joell of Sandys Parish and Scott Smith of Warwick all received sweatshirts and a personal introduction to Somers.
