A Police spokesperson said the culprit, described as dark-skinned, about five-foot six-inches tall and of slim build, entered the store in the Walker Arcade building shortly before 10.00 last Thursday morning.

While being served by a member of the staff, he "suddenly bolted from the store with the ring in his hand.'' The spokesperson said the man was last seen running through the arcade wearing multicoloured shorts and a light coloured t-shirt with "New York'' printed on the front.

A similar incident involving another theft was reported on Thursday afternoon when staff at a Hamilton store discovered an oriental carpet missing from the premises.

Police said it was believed the thief walked into the store on Tuesday afternoon and removed the carpet from the display room.

Police are also investigating the removal of a large quantity of liquor from a Pembroke warehouse.

According to officers, 40 cases of wine and 30 cases of juices worth more than $2,000 were reported to have been stolen sometime towards the end of July.

Anyone who can assist Police in locating these stolen items is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Franz Williams or Det. Con. David Small at CCID 295-0011 or an anonymous message can be left on the Police code-a-phone -- 295-1140.
