told a Magistrate last week that he was tired and begged for a chance to kick drugs once and for all.

Roger Winston Darrell, who has dozens of convictions for theft and drugs which date back to when he was 16, asked Magistrate Edward King to give him a concurrent sentence to a six-month sentence he is currently serving.

Mr. King did him "one better'' and ordered the suspension of concurrent sentences of six and three months for stealing and 28 days for violently resisting arrest.

"You understand? It means that you will come out of prison at your usual time,'' Mr. King said.

"But starting today, if you come back to these courts within the next 24 months you are likely to go to prison for these offences.

"Even when you come out of prison you will have an invisible fence around your head,'' he added.

Darrell had just pleaded guilty to violently resisting arrest on March 1 when Police stopped him on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish on unrelated matters.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Darrell was found to have two pairs of Calvin Klein overalls worth $78 each from Trimingham's and a $325 leather jacket from Shannon's Boutique.

Darrell admitted to Police he had taken the items earlier that day from the two Hamilton stores.

When Mr. King questioned Mr. Bannister's advice that Darrell would have difficulty speaking, Darrell replied: "I was assaulted and kicked at night as I slept and it broke my jaw. I did nothing to deserve this.'' Darrell added he was "sorry, so sorry'' for any trouble he had caused.

"Your Honour, there has come a time that I have had enough of this. I'm tired. Just tired. I am in a programme. You put me in it. But I would like to do this for myself,'' he added.
