Yesterday Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Roger Sheratt told The Royal Gazette the closed-circuit television (CCTV) installation process was going well.

"We're in the early stages of installing them,'' said Mr. Sherratt. "It's expected to take a month to six weeks to have them all installed and completely operational.'' Six to eight cameras have been installed in areas such as the Bull's Head Car Park, near the Hamilton bus terminal, and along Front Street, said Mr.

Sheratt.

Eventually, some 30 cameras will provide around-the-clock security.

The next step will be to install and test control monitors linked to the Hamilton Police station.

And members of the public have already begun to notice the "eyes-in-the-sky''.

"We have had quite a number of very positive comments about them -- particularly about those around the bus terminal,'' said Mr. Sherratt.

"Hopefully, they will have a real deterrent effect,'' he continued.
