Facility who were on a supervised outing, The Royal Gazette has learned.

The attack took place at the toilets of Number One Shed in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.

The victim suffered bruising in the assault but the incident was smoothed over by the prison officer accompanying the inmates.

It is understood the man agreed not to press charges after the officer returned his wallet to him.

The attack occurred at 4.30 p.m. when around nine inmates aged up to 18 went to the shed after attending church earlier in the day.

A well-placed source told The Royal Gazette : "Basically, the prison officer sorted it out and the guy decided not to press charges.'' A spokesman for Commissioner of Prisons Edward Dyer, said yesterday: "A group from the Co-Ed Facility had been at church and there was some kind of incident and Police are investigating it.'' A Police spokesman said: "There was a report of an incident at the Number One Shed of a man being assaulted. However, no charges were pressed and no Police action was required.'' A Government Information Services spokesman said supervised weekend excursions were normal activities for inmates at the Co-Ed Facility.
