even old enough to hold a driving licence.

But 11-year-old Levoui Tandy took the task in his stride when he stepped in as the Island's acting Commissioner yesterday.

Levoui, of Spring Benny Road, Sandys, got his chance to pound the beat after winning an essay competition asking schoolchildren what they would do if they could be the real-life Commissioner for a day.

The Middle School at Sandys pupil won the competition after writing that he would ensure that all Police officers were properly trained and that relations with young people improved.

Examining the latest crime statistics, making sure beat officers were properly turned out, getting updates from scenes of crime officers and liaising with the Deputy Police Commissioner were all on the diary for the budding law enforcer.

And the day ended with a trip back home on a Police boat. "I've had a really good day,'' Levoui said.

"The best part about it was going to the Scenes of Crime Office. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up but today hasn't put me off joining the Police.'' Four runners-up in the competition also had the chance to spend the day at Police headquarters as acting Divisional Commanders.
