during a fishing trip this week.

Mr. Don and Mrs. Sheila Wilkinson had been late night fishing off Pompano Beach. They were about to return to shore when Mr. Wilkinson found he could not start the engine of the Cuddy Cabin power boat just west of Chub Head.

"I don't know what was wrong. The fly wheel was not spinning, and I could not get going,'' he told The Royal Gazette .

"The sea was calm so there was no real panic. I let off three rocket flares and two hand-held flares and then we waited to see if there was any response.

My radio was not working.

"After about half an hour or 45 minutes I saw a boat going along the shore. I flashed them three times and it was the Marine Police.'' Constables Ralph Lindo and Reggie Horseman were in Rescue Two and towed the couple to safety.

Mr. Wilkinson added: "It was a big relief, but I was not in a panic. It is a mistake to panic in a situation like that.

"I usually have a ship-to-shore radio, but I had the flares. You need to carry safety equipment.''
