passing of the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE) race reporting regulations by the Senate and found mixed views during an informal poll.

And many locals admitted they knew very little about the CURE regulations.

Franco Harris said he did not agree with the regulations in their entirety.

He said he hoped that Bermudians would not see the regulations as a meal ticket, but rather as a chance to push for better, harder and experienced workers.

"I don't blame the companies. If they have someone who is qualified, then they should be able to bring them to Bermuda.'' "Bermudians expect too much,'' he added. "You can't expect to come out of school and get a job ...and then complain when you don't get one. You have to keep trying.'' He noted that Bermudians needed to work harder if they wanted the top positions and that came through getting the right qualifications needed for the job.

Jamahl Simmons said the handling of the implementation of the regulations was poor.

But he said, "It will work if everything is worked out with business when putting them into place.'' John Gibbons said he believed the regulations should be given a chance since that was the only way to determine if they would work or not.

He said "I don't know what will happen, but it's worth a try. What else can we do? "If it's not part of the solution, it's a part of the problem.'' He added: "That's why people voted for the PLP. People wanted something new.'' Barclay Carmichael said he believed benefits would come from the regulations.

"I was very disappointed between the lack of cooperation between the companies,'' he said. "The regulations are good for Bermuda.'' He added that he felt there was discrimination present on the Island and the regulations were the best possible way for things to begin to change.

But Thaao Dill said he did not see the regulations having any substantial impact on the Island.

He said: "I seriously doubt it. People with money will continue using the ideology and philosophy with their business.'' Simmons Carmichael Gibbons Dill
