Devonshire man fined for assault
$250 after he pleaded guilty to head butting a co-worker on January 4.
Jamel Che Hawker admitted he assaulted Richard Gladwyn Fox at 8.30 a.m. after Mr. Fox interrupted a heated discussion he was having with another man.
Magistrate Archibald Warner heard that Hawker, 27, of Alexandra Road, and the other man were arguing about a piece of damaged equipment.
Police prosecutor Phil Taylor said Hawker shouted: "You got a f***ing mechanic standing around doing nothing. Get him to do it.'' Mr. Fox approached the men believing he was the subject of the conversation, and was head butted by Hawker. Mr. Fox suffered a broken nose.
Sgt. Taylor said in a statement to Police, Hawker told the investigating officers Mr. Fox "swung at me first'', and added: "I did what I did in self defence.'' Hawker told Mr. Warner he was a hard working man, having arrived that day to work at 4.30 a.m.
"We have had words before the incident,'' he added. "I don't mess with anybody. I've asked him to leave me alone. He don't know when to say when. It is true that I was wrong.'' He gave Hawker until February 29 to pay the fine or face jail for 25 days.
