Satellites, computers and fibre optics grace the cover of the new blue book depicting this year's theme "Vision 2000 -- the Age of Fibre Optics''.

Inside, Telco explains how it hopes to make fibre optic technology available on a wide scale by the year 2000.

"The capacity of fibre is infinite,'' it claims. "During the next decade ...

there will be opportunity for increasing the capabilities of your telephone service within the immediate and the far distant future.'' But for now, it appears there have been relatively few innovative changes to this year's phone book.

Only an easy-to-read map of North America complete with area codes and colourful four-page advertising section entitled Out & About Bermuda appear to be new additions.

There is also a page for "important numbers'' at the back and a Longtail sketch brightening up the beginning of the blue pages.

Otherwise most things remain the same. Except that, for perhaps the first time, yellow pages outnumber alphabetical listings.
