homes needing repairs.

They say they are sick of leaky roofs, neglected internal repairs, and badly-maintained houses.

They are also worried about "crippling'' bills they say are being demanded.

Residents have formed a committee to speak for them in housing discussions with the West End Development Corporation.

And they have asked local PLP MPs Mr. Eugene Cox and Mr. Dennis Lister to help.

"Dockyard residents have seized the initiative and taken steps to get their concerns on the political map,'' said committee spokesman Mr. Clarkson Tankard yesterday.

"They are dissatisfied with the state of disrepair of many of their homes and they are unhappy about the manner in which these concerns are dealt with by WEDCO.

"The residents have a long litany of complaints about the summary way in which maintenance of their homes has been discharged. "They have decided out of this sense of disappointment to re-activate their Dockyard Committee.

"The committee is worried about the lack of internal repairs to homes, the water shortages, the payments for water which have now been introduced with the crippling lump-sum billings, the failure to carry out proper repairs to the dwellings, the leaky roofs, the question of the annual rate increases and the scale of increases.'' Mr. Tankard said Ireland Island residents would be meeting tonight at the Messina Hall at 7.30.
