Donald steps down, Edwards takes over

Mr. Donald, 54, retires after almost 33 years with the Force and two years as Commissioner.
He arrived on the Island in 1959 after serving in the Royal Military Police and the West Riding Police in England.
He served as a uniformed officer in Hamilton before spending 15 years in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Throughout his years on the Force, Mr. Donald earned eight commendations for meritorious service. He also received the Colonial Police Medal for Gallantry for his part in the arrest of armed assassin Erskin (Buck) Burrows in 1974.
Mr. Edwards, 52, will become the second Bermuda-born Commissioner in the Island's history.
He joined the Force in 1961 after he quit his job as a Bermudiana Hotel bellhop, answering a newspaper advertisement for the position.
Mr. Edwards has since worked as a uniformed officer, a CID detective, head of the Special Branch, Assistant Commissioner and, since 1990, Deputy Commissioner.
He received three Commissioner's Commendations during his CID career.
