King Edward VII Memorial Hospital because cycle bays have been eliminated due to construction.

And Russell Eddy wants the hospital to post warning signs that visitors should not bring their bikes.

Mr. Eddy said he took his son to the hospital for an operation on Friday but was unable to park in the regular cycle area because construction equipment was using that area.

He parked his cycle in a taxi stand because he saw other bikes parked there.

"I got a ticket,'' he said. "I was a little annoyed because there seems to have been no provision for cycle parking.

"At the very least the hospital should let the public know they cannot bring their bikes to the hospital so they can make other arrangements.'' Mr. Eddy said he did not want to pay the $50 because it was something forced on him by circumstances that were not of his own making.

Instead he said the hospital should either provide alternative sites to park or place signs warning motorists.

Hospital spokesman Luann Khan said the hospital was not aware people were experiencing difficulties.

She said that there were some alternative parking sites created although she was not certain how many.

But she said the problem would be looked into so that the hospital can determine how many people received tickets and the circumstances under which they were written.

"No one has approached us with this problem,'' she said. "As far as knew we didn't have that problem. We will look to see how many tickets were issued and where the people who were issued tickets had parked.

"Until then we do not know exactly where the bikes were parked and whether they were legally or illegally parked.''
