Howard Dwayne Burgess was fined a total of $1,200 after Police witnessed a transaction in which cocaine was later found wrapped in a $10 note.

Burgess, 36, of Mills Creek, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine on October 2 last year.

Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon said Police officers on patrol in Princess Street saw Burgess engage in a deal with another man.

When they approached hum, he dropped an object from his hand, which turned out to be 0.04 grams of cocaine.

He said to officers "it was not mine'', but later admitted the offence.

Ms Gordon said the offence took place within 300 metres of the Glory Land Bible Nursery -- an increased penalty zone.

Burgess, who was not represented, apologised for his actions.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Burgess $200 for the initial offence and $1,000 for being within the increased penalty zone.

Burgess was ordered to pay by April 23 or face 90 days imprisonment.

A breach of probation cost Tracey Shawn Mello of Pembroke his liberty yesterday.

Mello, 30, of Cedar Avenue was given eight months imprisonment after Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard how he had broken the terms of his sentence.

He had been ordered to attend counselling for substance abuse in January but was brought into court for a breach of the agreement.

Mello told the magistrate that the course wasn't for him after Probation staff said it was believed he had agreed to attend counselling to avoid going to prison in the first place.

The eight month sentence was imposed as the original penalty, given for seven offences of dishonesty, including stealing, making a false document and forgery to obtain $2,200.

A motorcyclist was fined a total of $650 after his overtaking manoeuvre caused an accident.

Melchisedec Gibbons was driving along Palmetto Road towards the junction of Bishop Spencer Road when the accident occurred.

Ms Gordon said Gibbons tried to overtake a car, resulting in an accident.

Damage was caused to both car and motorcycle but Gibbons left the scene.

Gibbons, 19, of Sleepy Hollow Drive, Hamilton, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident, driving without due care and attention, and having no driving licence. In his defence, he said the car driver was not using her indicator when she turned. He said he left the scene because he had no licence.
