was sentenced to four months in prison this week.

Steven G. Caisey of South Road pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing heroin and cocaine.

Prosecuting Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that at 4 p.m. on November 17 as a result of information received narcotics officers went to Ord Road in Warwick where they saw Caisey standing to the side of the road crying and staggering along.

"Officers observed Caisey throw a brown paper twist in the bushes as they approached him,'' Sgt. Kirby said.

"Inside the brown paper twist was a silver foil which had .006 grams of heroin with a 59 percent purity.

"Two smaller twists were also inside containing .28 grams of crack with a 93 percent purity.'' Sgt. Kirby added Caisey had several previous convictions for drugs.

When asked by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis if he had anything to say Caisey replied: "I've been on drugs off and on since 1984, and it's hard.

"I strayed back into drugs after I came out of jail. There is no rehab facility for me when I come out. Everywhere I go there are drugs. It's hard to kick the habit.'' Mr. Francis told Caisey that he had quite a lengthy record. He sentenced him to four months for possessing heroin and two months for possessing cocaine.

DRIVER NEARLY HIT SIDEWALK CTS A Hamilton Parish man who didn't expect to be over the alcohol limit was fined $400 for driving while impaired.

Patrick M. McManus, 31 pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court this week.

Prosecuting Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that on January 30 Police saw McManus riding an auxiliary cycle on Middle road in Devonshire travelling east.

"They observed as McManus just missed colliding with the sidewalk. Officers stopped him and noticed that his eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred,'' Insp. Duffy said.

An alcohol test showed that McManus had 134 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

When asked if he had anything to say McManus replied: "I didn't expect to be over the limit when I was pulled.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined McManus $400 and disqualified him from all vehicles for 12 months.

DISQUALIFIED FOR DRUNK DRIVING CTS A 40-year-old Sandys man was fined $450 in Magistrates' Court for driving while impaired.

David Sousa of Huntley Lane pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that on January 29 Police officers on patrol saw Sousa at the junction of Middle Road and Farmstead Lane.

"He swerved to the centre of the road and just missed colliding with the Police vehicle,'' Insp. Duffy said.

"Sousa finally stopped outside of the Hitching Post and when he tried to put his bike on the stand he fell over on the cycle.'' Insp. Duffy added that Police noticed Sousa's breath had a strong smell of alcohol and his speech was slurred. He failed to supply a sample of his breath.

When asked if he had anything to say Sousa said:"This is my first conviction in 20 years. I was on my way home and I guess I was still intoxicated.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Sousa $450 and disqualified him from all vehicles for 12 months.

MAN FINED FOR SWEARING CTS Shouting a string of four letter words at a Police officer cost a Southampton man a $150 fine when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday. Roy Correia, 23, pleaded guilty to using offensive words.

Prosecuting, Insp. Peter Duffy said Correia was stopped for a defective rear light while driving on Malabar Road on the night of January 29.

When it was revealed he held no valid driver's licence, he became abusive, swearing at the officer a number of times, Insp. Duffy said.
