cocaine so that she would escape prosecution for her role in the conspiracy a Supreme Court jury heard.

Luke Albert Hill, 35, of Cottage Hill, Hamilton Parish is charged with importing, possessing and handling the cocaine with intent to supply between February 10 and 11, 1999.

Nneka Powell testified that she met Hill on Par-la-Ville Road and went into Federal Express to pick up a package that she later gave to Hill.

She said that after giving him the package, she caught a bus to her sister's house in St. Monica's Mission where she was told that Police had busted her house and were looking for her.

She voluntarily went to the Police station where she was told by Det. Con.

Dave Bird that she had been seen handing the package containing drugs to Hill.

Hill's attorney, Richard Hector asked if she was told that she was in trouble for handling the drugs but she said no.

He then asked if she was told that she would be in trouble and she replied yes.

Ms Powell was not arrested and was not charged with any offence relating to the package.

Mr. Hector then asked if she was told that if she co-operated with Police, she would not be prosecuted, to which she answered yes.

Detective Constable David Gerahty later took the stand and explained his part in the surveillance of Hill and Ms Powell as they collected the package from the area.

He said he watched Hill take the package from Powell and put it in his car, which was parked at the Esso gas station on Par-La-Ville Road.

Pc Irvine Hendrickson said he saw the pair go down Par-La-Ville Road but did not see Ms Powell pass the package to Hill.

Det. Cons. Calon Hollis testified that he was called to a trash can on Church Street and saw ripped up pieces of paper which formed a FedEx document when pieced together.

The court heard earlier that Hill was spotted by Police tearing up a piece of paper and putting it in the same trash can.

Pc Troy Glasgow said he had Hill under surveillance and saw him talk to a black woman in Church Street and walk with her to the Esso gas station.

Later, he saw Hill in a car in North Shore Road, Devonshire.
