over whether pyschopathic killer Leroy Burgess was placed on an unsupervised work programme.

Burgess killed German visitor Miss Antje Herkommer while he was on the programme. The 25-year-old Casemates inmate was jailed for life on manslaughter charges last month.

Mr. Edness said yesterday that he questioned why Burgess was allowed on the work programme. He had signed a document which stopped Burgess from being allowed an early release which would have put him back into the community under prison supervision.

And he had pointed out the need for the man to have more psychological treatment.

The decision to put him on a work programme was not up to him, but the prison authorities.
