getting a fair trial on an assault charge.

Raymond Godfrey Evans, 43, of Reid Street, on Monday denied charges of unlawfully assaulting and doing bodily harm to Diane Smith.

But he admitted carrying a knife and a cedar club in a public place.

Evans asked Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to be tried in Supreme Court for the offence but changed his mind when he heard that a judge could give him a stiffer sentence for the offence.

He asked that the Wor. John Judge not be chosen to conduct his case on April 30. Evans was imprisoned for two years, in 1991, for breaking Mr. Judge's arm outside Magistrates' Court.

Mr. Francis assured Evans Mr. Judge will not be in charge of the proceedings.
