offensive words on Wednesday during a routine traffic stop.

But Anthony John Dyer reacted angrily at the Police's version of events shortly before midnight when they pulled the car he was a passenger in over on Court Street.

"Your honour, I'd like to withdraw my plea of guilty to that,'' Dyer, 34, of North Shore Road, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner on Thursday. "I have no choice but to withdraw it.

"That whole thing is a fabrication...a lie,'' he continued. "I swear on my mother's life that's not what happened. I was going to plead guilty until I heard this fabrication. I don't believe it, the cops are lying!'' Mr. Warner, however, was unmoved, telling Dyer: "I've heard what you've had to say. You said you're guilty, I heard the facts and you decided to change your plea.

"I heard you unsolicited in fact,'' Mr. Warner continued. "In any event what I heard amounted to offensive words. Your guilty plea stands. $300.'' Before he pleaded guilty Dyer had questioned Mr. Warner how he should plea to the charge, saying he could not understand how questioning the driver "what the f**k they pulling you over for?'' could lead to a charge of offensive words.

"I'm in between two minds for this,'' Dyer explained.

But Mr. Warner told him he could not "advise'' him, adding: "My duty is to ask you guilty or not guilty.'' Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the Court Police stopped the private car licence number 29411 at 11.45 p.m. Wednesday night and Dyer said to them: "What the f**k you guys pulling us over for?'' When Police told them their reasons, he responded "no f**king way!'' and when they said he would be arrested he said "well, I'll be back f**king out in five minutes''.

Dyer was given until next Friday to pay the fine.
