Government announced yesterday that it will be looking overseas for a Prisons Commissioner to replace the void created by the retirement last month of Edward Dyer.

Last night the Permanent secretary for Labour Home Affairs & Public Safety, Robert Horton issued a statement that the Public Service Commission had agreed to allow the search for a replacement to extend overseas.

Mr. Horton said the broader search was necessary "in order to bring the post of Commissioner of prisons the range of experience and expertise that we believe are essential in order to effect the desired improvements in the Prisons Department''.

Mr. Horton said that a foreigner should be appointed to serve a maximum of two or three year contract.

ACCIDENT APPEAL AC Accident appeal Police are appealing for a motorcyclist to come forward after a three-year-old girl was knocked down in Hamilton Parish on Saturday.

At about 11.20 a.m., Police were called to attend a road traffic accident in My Lord's Bay Road. A motorcyclist travelling along the road had been involved in a collision with the little girl.

The rider of the cycle stopped to speak to the child's parents, but then left before Police had arrived.

He is now being urged to contact officers in St. George's, who are investigating the incident.

The little girl was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance where she was treated for very minor injuries.

The rider, or anyone with information, should call PC Ian Moe on 297-1122.

HOMES RAIDED CRM Homes raided Detectives are investigating two burglaries that took place overnight on Saturday where thieves stole cash.

The first happened when a man broke into a home on Dudley Hill in Paget after getting in through an unsecured window.

The burglar removed the resident's handbag while she slept, containing a significant amount of cash and credit cards, and then took a separate wallet, also containing money. He then fled the scene by making off in the woman's car.

The second incident happened on Raynor's Drive in Southampton, when a woman reported that someone had entered her home sometime through the night on Saturday. Police said the thief had appeared to gain entry by using force, and stole a large quantity of coins from one of the rooms.

NOT HIS DAY CRM Not his day Saturday was not a good day for a man who first saw his bike break down and then his wallet stolen by a Good Samaritan who came to offer help.

The victim was forced to walk his motorcycle home after it broke down on South Road in Southampton on Saturday night.

He told Police that he was approached by an unknown man at about 9 p.m. who offered to help him push the cycle along the road.

When they reached the man's destination, near to Rockaway Lane in Southampton, he was about to pay the stranger for his efforts.

But, before he could offer cash, the so-called Good Samaritan snatched away the wallet and fled the area.

The victim has given Police a description of the thief and inquiries are underway.

TOOL STOLEN CRM Tools stolen Several items were reportedly stolen from a tool shed at a South Road, Warwick residence.

The complainant reported that the culprit entered his shed sometime between Wednesday and Thursday and stole several tools including machetes, wrenches, screwdrivers and other small tools.

The culprit or culprits also removed a small dog kennel from outside the shed.
