Girl caught driving cycle underage

did not save an underage 17-year-old St. David's woman from being fined in Magistrates' Court last week.

Mellissa Miller, of Texas Road, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified by reason of age.

Police stopped Miller who was riding along Kindley Field Road around 4 p.m. on April 29 and asked to see her licence, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said.

Miller had a licence for an auxiliary cycle only.

Miller, who said she did not have the time to take a bus or other transport to the pharmacy at Collector's Hill, said: "Although I know I was wrong, I had no other choice''.

She asked Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to take into account this was her first offence.

After scolding Miller, Mr. Francis fined banned her from driving all motor vehicles for a year and but he fined her $100 because she is a student.
