But the PLP refused to play ball -- party leaders were not prepared to comment on the latest allegations.

The Premier was responding to the PLP's attack on Government's new five-year plan -- launched last week -- and called the Opposition's reaction "insulting'' and "misleading''.

And she accused the PLP of hiding behind "inaction, empty attacks and insults''.

"It is time for the PLP to stop indulging in empty rhetoric and mindless criticism, and to put forward a comprehensive and constructive plan of their own -- if they have one,'' Ms Gordon said.

"Time after time, the PLP has only produced negative campaigning, old slogans and abusive commentary...clearly, the Opposition's strategy is to keep the people in the dark for as long as possible.

"They have nothing to show, so they want to lay low -- afraid their plan will blow it, so they don't want to show it.'' Ms Gordon noted that the instability of the global economy needed to be looked at and recognised as being at "severe risk''.

She said the Opposition was not addressing such problems and accused the PLP of "putting their heads in the sand, denying those risks, and failing to learn from their mistakes''.

Despite several efforts, PLP Leader Jennifer Smith could not be reached for comment yesterday.

And Deputy Opposition Leader and Shadow Finance Minister Eugene Cox said he did not wish to comment at this time.

"Our leader is not available and what I will say is that I don't wish to make any comment tonight,'' he said.

"But I'm holding a press conference tomorrow and I also gave a press conference a few weeks ago in which I stated what our vision is.''
