The tests will reveal if supplies have been contaminated by smoke from the giant Pembroke electricity plant.
"We will be checking samples just to make sure they meet drinking water quality standards,'' said a Health spokesman last night. The checks, last made "a couple of years ago'', were unlikely to reveal anything of concern.
But they would possibly reveal soot particles and a higher sulphate reading.
The spokesman denied the tests were being done in response to comments from purification expert Mr. Colin Palmer last week.
Mr. Palmer said emissions from Belco, vehicles and other sources could eventually make local water a health danger.
