Gov't is seeking new Accountant General

The chief accounting officer of the Government, the Accountant General reports to the Financial Secretary and supervises a staff of 38. The post pays $88,170 a year.

The Accountant General is responsible for management of public funds, development and enforcement of accounting and internal control standards, and administration of laws including the Stamp Duties Act 1976 and the foreign Currency Purchase Tax Act 1975.

The Accountant General also is an ex-officio member of the Public Service Superannuation Board and the Government Employees Health Insurance Management Committee, and is Secretary to the Public Funds Investment Committee.

Participation in Government negotiations with trade unions is another duty.

Government wants the new Accountant General to work with Mr. Hannam during a transition period of at least six weeks before assuming duty on July 1.

The deadline for applications is March 3.
