The price of a Pembroke plot of land Government has proposed to buy is $60,000 -- not $600,000 as reported yesterday.

The Ministry of Works and Engineering has proposed the purchase of a $600,000 plot of Pembroke land as part of a future park at the site of the Pembroke Dump.

The proposal to buy the 0.088 acre plot off Parsons Road was put before the House of Assembly on Friday.

If it is passed by the House, the property will become the latest in a patchwork of property north of Parsons Road which Government is proposing to incorporate into the 25-acre park.

"Negotiations for the other properties along Parsons Road are underway,'' said Works and Engineering minister the Hon. Mr. Leonard Gibbons. "We are buying them as funds become available.'' He added that Government is currently in the process of carrying out a "massive composting operation''. The resultant soil will be used as top soil which is too expensive to import.

And plans are afoot to develop part of the park this year at a site opposite the old Central School playing field.

While there is no fixed date for the completion of the park, Mr. Gibbons estimated it will be finished within the next five to seven years.
