Family Court Magistrate Carlisle Greaves has a blanket ban on media entry into his courtroom.

But late last month Mr. Greaves said he would review his policy after requests by the media to enter his courtroom.

Both broadcast and print media followed tips on March 31 that at least one of the Saltus students would be charged with the Harrington Sound Primary School arson in Juvenile Court.

Court staff said the hearing was not scheduled and they did not know when files on the case would be ready.

And a reporter from The Royal Gazette was told he would not be allowed into the courtroom.

On Friday, Mr. Greaves' secretary said: "Mr. Greaves has been very busy. He is still looking at the laws. Mr. Greaves has not made a decision yet.'' Senior Magistrate Will Francis, who is responsible for the lower courts, said he had spoken to Mr. Greaves about the ruling. But Mr. Francis said he could not tell other Magistrates how to run their courts.

"My ruling is that you guys (the media) can go into the courtroom,'' he pointed out. "My view is that the media can go in subject to certain conditions.'' He added: "As Senior Magistrate I can't tell these men how to keep order in their court. But from an administrative point of view I don't see any law above what I've seen.''
