Admitted heroin addict Robert Damon Green of Vesey Street, Devonshire was sentenced by Chief Justice Austin Ward for stealing and forging a series of cheques.

Appearing on behalf of Green, Ms Christopher argued that her client should not receive a harsh sentence because he was not given proper probation consideration for his offences.

"His actions did not involve any personal injury,'' she said. "He has been in and out of prison since the age of 12. Prison is not going to cure him.'' Justice Ward gave consideration to the fact that Green was already serving a prison sentence.

He imposed a three-year sentence on Green, with the exception that the remaining six months of the sentence could be served at the Salvation Army Harbour Light drug rehabilitation facility.

The sentence was to run concurrently with a nine month sentence Green is already serving.
