High-speed chase ends in arrest
Saturday with his 18-year-old girlfriend and their 18-month-old child in the car.
At approximately 5 p.m. on South Road in Southampton, Police recognised the car as one they knew to be unlicensed and uninsured. Realising he had been noticed, the man accelerated and sped off with officers in pursuit. According to Police sources, the chase at times reached speeds of 130 kph.
A Police vehicle parked across South Shore Road near the west entrance to the Botanical Gardens had to be driven forward to avoid a major collision.
The pursuit ended soon afterwards when the 23-year-old driver struck a second Police roadblock set up at the junction of Tee Street and South Shore Road in Devonshire.
The man was apprehended at the scene and later released on bail. He is expected to appear in Magistrates' Court.
The vehicle's occupants sustained only minor injuries.
A Police motorcycle was involved in a minor accident with a private car on Friday night while racing to an emergency call.
The officer was responding to a request for back-up in an arrest in Warwick.
The vehicles collided on South Shore Road in Paget near Lovers Lane at approximately 10.10 p.m.
