And the public will again be asked to vote for the hospitality sector workers who they believe have gone the extra mile for Island visitors.

Starting on Friday, nomination forms will be available for people to select tourism workers who they believe deserve recognition.

They will receive their awards at a ceremony due to be held at the Fairmont Southampton Princess in November.

Top prize is a $20,000 money market fund donated by the Bank of Butterfield, with holidays for two for each of the 17 sector winners.

A VIP spokesman said: "The awards is a peer nominated scheme and we encourage people to select someone today.

"Anyone can nominate anyone that has gone above and beyond the call of duty in the tourism and hospitality industry.'' Aswell as categories for regular tourism staff, such as waiters, desk staff, taxi drivers and housekeeping, this year there are two new categories, airline employee and hospitality support services award.

Sponsoring the event are Belco, the Bermuda Department of Tourism, Bermuda Hotel Association, Southampton Princess, Butterfield and Vallis, Grotto Bay Hotel, Cable and Wireless, and Ernst and Young.
