Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said a man was forcing open a bar cabinet on Saturday evening when he was disturbed by the staff member and ran off.

Another thief was more successful on Saturday morning.

A woman returned to her car on Reid Street to find a man entering it. He ran off on to Burnaby Street, with her purse containing $45.

The man was described as dark skinned, about five feet, 10 inches, and wearing a green-hooded sweat shirt and dark trousers.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact CID in Hamilton.

PANEL APPOINTED PLN Panel appointed The lengthy review process of Government's Bermuda Plan 1992 began this week, with the appointment of a public objections tribunal.

Sitting on the panel are retired banker Mr. John R.H. Lightbourn, lawyer Mr.

Peter J.C. Smith and executive Mrs. Zoleta P. Oliver.

Although no date has been set for the commencement of the hearings, a spokesman for the Planning Department said they will be starting them "as soon as possible''.

The panel must first be briefed on the plan, after which 250 provisionally resolved objections will be presented to them for ratification.

The tribunal also faces 1,158 unresolved cases which must be ironed out by this December.

TEST SITES REMAIN TRA Test sites remain Examination stations for four-wheeled vehicles recently introduced at Dockyard and St. George's have been so popular with motorists that the Transport Control Department has extended the service to the end of April.

The examinations, which are required annually for licensing of four-wheeled vehicles, will be held at the Dockyard Navigational Aids Workshop on March 8 and 15 and on April 12 and 19.

They will be at Penno's Wharf in St. George's on March 12 and 19 and on April 16 and 23.

DRIVER BANNED CTS Driver banned A butcher drank 10 pints of beer before setting off on his motor scooter, Magistrates' Court was told on Friday.

Michael Whelan, 35, of South Shore Road in Southampton, pleaded guilty to impaired driving in St. George's on January 29.

Police followed Whelan's cycle westbound on Mullet Bay Road and noticed him swerve across the yellow line and nearly strike a wall, prosecutor Sgt. Ken James said.

When stopped by Police and asked if he had been drinking, Whelan said he "had 10 pints of beer''.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Whelan $400 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
