Roddelle Lightbourne was given a nine month sentence after pleading guilty to a break-in on Dundonald Street on Wednesday and for stealing from a Warwick home in January.

Prosecutor Peter Eccles told the court how Lightbourne, 28, of Spring Hill, was caught red handed breaking into a home on Dundonald Street on Wednesday morning.

Lightbourne, who has previous convictions for theft, fraud and armed robbery, also admitted stealing a stereo system from a house on Quarry Hill Road, Warwick, on the evening of January 23 after breaking in through a window.

Defence attorney Elizabeth Christopher urged Senior Magistrate Will Francis to show clemency, saying in mitigation that Lightbourne had a young child and was the only member of his household in work.

But Mr. Francis explained he would have to give Lightbourne two concurrent nine month terms for each break-in, as he had targeted dwelling houses.

"It's much more serious to break into someone's house and the fact that you stole something is less serious than the fact that you broke in at night time,'' Mr. Francis said.

Just last week Lightbourne hit the headlines after his brother Randolph was convicted of armed robbery following a two week trial in the Supreme Court.

After his brother had been sentenced for the 1997 Bank of Butterfield heist, Lightbourne blasted the Island's legal system, saying that the jury only returned a guilty verdict because they knew of his brothers' previous convictions.
