Lamech Israel told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner he was too busy working to reschedule a Magistrates' Court date in relation to a traffic offence.

Meanwhile he was arrested for committing the same offence again last week.

"You got disqualified last July, you were stopped in March and then you fail to show and then you turn around and do it again yesterday,'' Mr. Warner said.

"That's total contempt for the court,'' said the Magistrate.

Israel, 22, of Ewing Street, admitted riding while disqualified on March 23.

The court heard that at that time he was banned from driving all vehicles except intermediate and heavy trucks.

He was arrested on the evening of April 11 for riding while disqualified again.

Mr. Warner fined him $800 and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for 12 months for riding on March 23.

Israel was also fined $1,000 and banned again for one year for this week's incident. He also received a six month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He told Israel: "This is your last chance. You come back in here and there is a good chance this will be activated.'' When Israel asked for "time to pay'' Mr. Warner replied: "No. It's not going to happen. You pay this today. You have no respect for these courts. You say you will pay next month. Why should I believe you?''
