Knife attack youth in court
assaulted a man after attempting to steal his money.
Perry Simons, of Cambridge Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to attempting to steal, assault causing bodily harm, possessing a flick knife, and violently resisting arrest.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told the court that at 5.30 p.m. on August 12, Steven Bainbridge drove to a liquor store on Cambridge Road in Sandys.
"Simons left the store and approached Bainbridge who was sitting in his car,'' said Insp. Duffy.
"He seemed intoxicated. He flashed a flick knife in front of Bainbridge and demanded that he give him money.'' When Bainbridge refused, Simons slashed him with the knife on his right arm, causing a minor wound, added Insp. Duffy.
Bainbridge drove to the Somerset Police Station and reported the incident.
Later Police saw Simons standing with other youths. When they approached him he violently resisted arrest. Police noticed that he was in possession of an eight inch flick knife.
"After being arrested Simons admitted attempting to get money from Bainbridge,'' said Insp. Duffy.
The social inquiry report will be read on August 28.
