Philip Wasser, an American passenger on the Dreamward , pleaded guilty to the charge.

Crown counsel Ms Nita Grewal told the court Wasser was found to have a plastic bag of plant material and one-and-a-half home-made cigarettes in a cigarette box in his cabin on July 24.

Duty counsel Ms Elizabeth Christopher said Wasser was remorseful and he had cooperated with Police.

"He was unaware of the drug laws,'' Ms Christopher added. "He says he will never touch the stuff again.''
