accident in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The man was travelling west on North Shore Road, Devonshire, at about 5.15 a.m. when he lost control of his bike while taking a right hand bend just past Dock Hill. He was taken to hospital suffering from head injuries.

Last night a hospital spokeswoman described the man, who is not being named, as being in a "serious condition''.

Police are warning cyclists to make sure their vehicles are secure following a spate of bike thefts over the weekend.

More than half-a dozen vehicles were stolen on Saturday and yesterday, primarily in the City of Hamilton area.
