yesterday sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison.

Robert Reginald Smith, 44, of North Shore Road, was convicted on July 11 in Supreme Court of using an article of flammable liquid with intent to cause harm.

Smith had been thrown out of the Sparrow's Nest night club on June 25 last year after causing a disturbance at the bar by fondling other male patrons and holding his own private parts.

Smith later returned carrying a white plastic bowl, containing gasoline and a fight ensued with then off-duty security guard Benjamin Smith. Smith threw the gasoline at the guard and attempting to set him on fire.

Puisne Judge the Hon. Mr. Justice Meerabux yesterday told Smith society could not tolerate people using petrol to cause fear and that there had been an "immense potentiality for harm''.
