Dakari Hollis, 22, of Radnor Close, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to failing to stop for Police, not having a valid driver's licence, driving in a dangerous manner, and assaulting a Police officer.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Police were on patrol on Cottage Hill in Hamilton Parish on April 1 when Hollis saw them and took off in the opposite direction.

The Police pursued Hollis, who had a passenger on his cycle.

Sgt. Osborne said Hollis eventually slowed down to let his passenger off and then increased his speed and crossed the Francis Patton School Field, where children were playing. He then made a detour on the railway trail.

And officer stood in the middle of the trail in an attempt to get Hollis to stop, Sgt. Osborne added.

But he did not stop and in an attempt to get out of the way, the officer's hand was hit by the bike's handle bar, causing a bad bruise on his wrist.

Sgt. Osborne said a subsequent check of the Transport Control Department's records showed that Hollis did not have a valid licence.

Acting Magistrate Cheryl Ann Mapp said Hollis' actions showed a "reckless disregard for life''.

She ordered him to pay $150 for failing to stop for Police, $150 for not having a driver's licence, $500 for driving in a dangerous manner, and $500 for assaulting a Police officer.

In addition to those fines, Mrs. Mapp fined Hollis $150 for not completing 13 hours of community service he was given for a previous unrelated offence.

$100 FINE FOR DRINKING IN PUBLIC CTS $100 fine for drinking in public An 18-year-old St. George's man was fined $100 on Friday for drinking alcohol in public.

Damon Robinson, of Barracks Close, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the offence.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Robinson was with a group of other young people who were drinking beer from bottles inside paper bags on July 30 during the Heritage Day celebrations at King's Square, St. George's.

Officers on patrol warned the group that drinking alcohol in public was not allowed.

Sgt. Osborne said the officers about half an hour later saw Robinson drinking beer from a bottle which was inside a paper bag.

Robinson told the officers he thought it was all right to drink alcohol if the bottle was inside a bag.

When handing down the sentence, Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl Ann Mapp told Robinson he should not have ignored the officers warning.

MAN ASSAULTED HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND CTS Man assaulted his ex-girlfriend Slapping his ex-girlfriend because "she was messing around on him'' landed a 30-year-old Pembroke man in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Winston Berkeley, of West Park Lane, pleaded guilty to committing unlawful assault.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Berkeley approached his ex-girlfriend and her cousin who were talking to a male friend after a game at PHC in Warwick.

After talking to her for a few minutes Berkeley stuck her across the face and walked off, Sgt. Osborne said.

Berkeley told the court he was angry at her for not being faithful to him.

He said she had become rude and so he hit her.

Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl Ann Mapp told Berkeley he could not take his frustrations out on other people. She then ordered him to pay a $500 fine.
