Perry Puckerin, 24, of Parsons Road, went to the Hamilton Princess in January this year and checked into a room under a false name, Magistrates' Court heard.

Junior Croiwn counsel Veronica Gordon said when Police -- acting on information received -- raided the room, they found Puckerin and several other men in the room with quantities of crack cocaine, cannabis and drug equipment.

A search revealed 28 brown twists containing a total of 5.88 grams of crack cocaine, 23 foil wraps containing a total of 6.39 grams of cannabis, a manila envelope containing 0.45 grams of cannabis and several half-smoked homemade cigarettes containing 0.30 grams of cannabis.

Police estimated that the quantity of cannabis had a street value of $675 and that the packages of cocaine would fetch $1,400.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis sentenced Puckerin, who is unemployed and had previous convictions for possession, to 12 months for the cocaine offences and to six months for possessing cannabis. The sentences are to run concurrently.
